Arthritis Pain Relief – Anti Arthritis :

One alternative therapy could be use of herbal extracts. In this area, the CSIR-North East Institute of Science & Technology, Jorhat has made a significant contribution by developing an Herbal Anti-Arthritis product from rich biodiversity of NE India, which is proven to be very effective in managing arthritic problem of a wide section of people in different parts of the country.

The herbal product developed by CSIR-NEIST, named as ‘ANTI-ARTHRITIS’, formulated as an ointment effective in both Rheumatoid arthritis and other joint pains. The raw materials of the product are from edible plants widely occurring in NE India.

This product has been thoroughly investigated on collagen induced arthritic mice model to establish its efficacy and found that the pro-inflammatory cytokines significantly reduced in the treated mice. Further, a total of 50 patients were examined clinically and the effect of the product in different cytokines of arthritic inflammation was found to be effective. About 5000 samples of the product have been distributed among different arthritic patients across the country with very encouraging response.

The product has already been cleared by various statutory committees and a manufacturing license has been granted to the institute by the Drug Controller of Assam. By considering demand of the product among the public, CSIR has decided to release the product to market. To maintain the consistent quality and to keep the price of the product affordable, CSIR-NEIST has decided to manufacture the product in its premise and give the marketing rights to various small and medium entrepreneurs in different parts of the country.

Features of ‘Anti-Arthritis’ Product

• Broad spectrum activity: ANTI-ARTHRITIS ointment work with both RA and OA forms of arthritis.
• Dose of application: The ointment may be used locally on joints affected with arthritis. The ointment may be applied two to three times per day for quick recovery of the infected parts. It is more effective if applied once at the joints before going to bed during night.
• Herbal ingredients: The active ingredients of the formulation are derived from edible plant sources. These plant compounds were found neither harmful nor injurious to human.
• Side effects: No adverse effects are recorded.
